Diefenbach...

Quite possibly the world's most hyggeligt band...

Diefenbach

Before I begin, I really should profess a personal interest- five adorable blokes (it's now four- original guitarist Nikolaj left to continue being a brain scientist...) from Copenhagen slept on my floor (and didn't complain when I tried to poison them with a cooked breakfast) as a favour for a friend, and...well.. we developed an odd kind of friendship. At the time they were a minor post-rock band, but now they're much, much more...Diefenbach are now part of the Wall Of Sound/PIAS stable, and they promise to go a long, long way...

From their beginning as a Copenhagen post-rock band, they've grown into a full-blown phenomenon. Think Beach Boys meets Mogwai meets...well, Diefenbach, actually. (For once, I'm stumped) The worries about changing their sound due to being signed to Wall of Sound? Don't believe a word of it. Don't you just hate it when everyone else discovers one of your guilty pleasures, though?

Debut album "Diefenbach" (released in Denmark only, as far as I'm aware) is jam-packed full of post-rock classics, but it's on the transitional album "Run Trip Fall" (released in 2003 in Denmark and 2004 in the UK) where they've really started coming into their own. A hidden gem which combines both beach-boyesque harmonies and tunes that get stuck in your head in the most amazing way, it's one to go and seek. 2005's "Set and Drift" was another change in direction-layers of guitars and vocals, allowing them to rock out and unleash the rock beats...

In session at Planet Claire :

Here's their Myspace and website, and I should probably tell you all that a longer version of this article and musch, much more appeared on the lovely Lostmusic a while back... Records available in all good record stores, itunes etc...
